Artificial intelligence is becoming part of everyday life. For members of the Church, it raises natural questions: What is it, really? Can it be trusted? How should we approach it?
What AI actually is
Modern AI language models are trained on large amounts of text. They learn patterns in language and can produce responses that sound coherent and helpful. But they are not conscious, they do not have testimonies, and they can — and do — make mistakes.
What AI is not
AI is not a spiritual authority. It cannot replace prayer, personal revelation, scripture study, or the guidance of the Holy Ghost. It does not have access to your personal circumstances, your covenants, or your relationship with Heavenly Father.
A tool for learning, not a source of truth
The wisest way to think about AI is as a study tool — like a study guide, a concordance, or a knowledgeable friend. It can help you think, organize ideas, and explore topics. But you are responsible for verifying what you learn.
Approaching it faithfully
Members of the Church have always been counseled to seek learning by study and also by faith. AI can support the study side. Faith, prayer, and the Spirit remain essential — and no tool replaces them.
My Liahona is designed to support this balanced approach: a calmer, more context-aware place to study with AI, while keeping scripture, truth, and personal responsibility at the center.
